Kansas Leadership Center Offering Leadership Courses to Develop Effective Leaders in Public Service

Wichita, Kan.– The Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) is offering a new series of leadership courses to develop effective leaders across diverse sectors of public service. The nonprofit organization’s Leadership in Public Service program is for currently serving, new and emerging elected or appointed officials in state or local government across Kansas.

“At the Kansas Leadership Center, we believe that effective leadership is essential for creating positive change and building a better future for all. Through our Leadership in Public Service program, we are committed to supporting and developing a community of public service officials who are leading with courage, empathy, and vision,” said Kaye Monk-Morgan, KLC’s president and CEO.

The Leadership in Public Service program equips those who are currently serving as well as new and emerging public officials in Kansas with the skills, knowledge and confidence to tackle complex challenges and drive positive change in public affairs. KLC upholds a non-partisan stance in the program, emphasizing impartiality and neutrality in its approach.

“Our aspiration with the Leadership in Public Service program is to provide a space where elected officials can learn from each other, expand their network and learn practical leadership concepts that can apply to the real-life challenges they face back home. It’s rare for elected officials to get a chance to reflect on their role and have an opportunity to learn from others who are in the same position,” said Shaun Rojas, KLC’s senior director of civic engagement.

Leadership in Public Service includes three separate program tracks for incoming state legislators, current local elected officials and those who aspire to run for elected office or serve as an appointed official in state or local government. There is no cost to enroll, but an application is required for acceptance into a program.

The program’s Public Service Fellowship for Local Elected Officials starts August 29 at KLC in Wichita. The second program, Emerging Public Servants Leadership Training, has sessions in Kansas City, Wichita and virtually in October. The third program, Leadership and Legacy in the Statehouse, is offered to leaders elected to the state legislature for the first time.
