Conversations about racial justice and equity have become increasingly polarized along party lines. But a commission charged with advancing racial justice and equity after the murder of George Floyd has found success with policy prescriptions that tend to generate consensus rather than controversy. Since Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly introduced members of the 15-member Governor’s Commission on Racial Equity and Justice, the group has convened nearly three dozen meetings and published three substantial reports totaling more than 250 pages in length. We’ll explore what they’ve learned and struggled with along the way.
This is the final Journal magazine launch of 2022! Join executive editor Chris Green and members of the commission for discussion about what leadership may be required to build consensus in times of division.
Featured guests from the Governor’s Commission on Racial Equity and Justice:
- Dr. Tiffany Anderson, commission co-chair and superintendent of Topeka public schools
- David Jordan, commission member and president & CEO of United Methodist Health Ministry Fund
- Monique Centeno, commission member and personal injury lawyer at Patterson Legal Group
