Sidney Childs, Ed.D. | Chief Learning Officer
Dr. Sidney Childs serves as chief learning officer at the Kansas Leadership Center. He believes leadership is not reserved for those with titles or authority but is an activity that belongs to anyone willing to help others make progress on the challenges that matter. Throughout his career, he has partnered with students, educators, nonprofit organizations, public agencies and communities to strengthen leadership, build trust and create environments where people can learn, adapt and thrive together.
Sidney joins the Kansas Leadership Center after more than three decades of experience across higher education, public service and organizational consulting. Whether serving as a university vice president, chief diversity officer, executive coach or consultant, he has learned that lasting change comes when people learn together, navigate uncertainty and share responsibility for the future they want to create.
As a first-generation college graduate, Sidney understands the profound impact of someone seeing potential in you before you see it in yourself. That experience continues to shape his belief that leadership begins when people recognize their own capacity to make a difference instead of waiting for someone else to solve the problem. He is passionate about helping people discover possibility in themselves, one another and the communities they serve.
As chief learning officer, Sidney looks forward to helping more people build the capacity to exercise leadership for the common good. He believes leadership is ultimately an invitation, not to become someone else, but to awaken what is already within us and accept responsibility for the work that is ours to do. As he often says, “We are who we are looking for.”
Sidney and his wife, Beth, have been partners in life’s adventures for more than three decades and are the proud parents of their daughter, Annae. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, exploring museums and local history, mentoring emerging leaders and discovering great local restaurants wherever his travels take him.
