Melissa Musgrave | People and Culture Officer

Melissa Musgrave serves as people and culture officer at the Kansas Leadership Center, where she shapes the organization’s people strategy and internal culture work. She believes leadership is an activity, not a position, and that how people show up with and for one another each day determines what an organization can become. In her role, Melissa focuses on cultivating an environment where staff feel trusted, supported and stretched to grow – so they can bring their best to KLC’s mission of strengthening leadership for the common good.

Melissa brings more than 25 years of experience in human resources and talent strategy across complex organizations, including large-scale recruitment initiatives in the aerospace industry. Her career spans talent acquisition, leadership development, workforce planning and organizational change. These experiences reinforced her belief that adaptive challenges are rarely solved by technical fixes alone – they require courage, honest conversation and a willingness to manage ourselves while engaging others in meaningful work.

She is especially drawn to the discipline of managing self: paying attention to triggers, stories and values in tension when stakes are high. Melissa sees culture as something we actively create through clarity, accountability and trust. At KLC, she is energized by building an internal culture that reflects the leadership the organization teaches.

Outside of work, Melissa finds energy in wide Kansas horizons, time with her family and caring for the animals on her hobby farm. She believes leadership, at its best, starts close to home.
