Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

Where are the leadership programs held?

In-person programs
Unless otherwise stated, programs delivered in-person take place at the Kansas Leadership Center & Kansas Health Foundation Conference Center located at 325 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, Kansas. Some in-person programs are scheduled for the Kansas City area and other locations.

Virtual programs
Our virtual programs are delivered via Zoom conference software. Each individual will need a free or paid account to join. Zoom links will be sent out 1-2 days prior to each program start date.

Who is welcome to attend?

Short answer: Anyone who wants to become equipped with leadership skills to move forward. We aspire to reach and help people lead throughout the world and strongly believe anyone from Kansas to Kathmandu all have the potential.

We do ask that participants are 21 years of age or older.

Where do I park?

The Kansas Leadership Center is located at 325 E. Douglas, Wichita, Kansas 67202 on the SW corner of Douglas and Topeka.  We encourage you to build in travel time for parking as areas around our conference center can get congested. The Car Park operates two parking garages near our building (download map here):

1. Block One Parking Garage, located at 360 E. William, directly south of the Kansas Leadership Center – $6.00/day, $1.50/hr. Cash or credit (preferred) is accepted

2. Williams Street Garage, located at 121 S. Emporia Street, on the corner of Topeka and William to the SE of the Kansas Leadership Center – $5.00/day, $15 overnight. Only credit card is accepted

The City of Wichita also offers paid on-street parking around the conference center for $1 per hour from 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (M-Th) and 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (F-Sat). See a Google map of the area here.

Can I come with other members from my organization?

Absolutely! We encourage you to attend our programs with others and in Lead for Change, it’s required! With that being said, other small group activities are designed to avoid individuals in the same organization being grouped together, so come ready to work with others outside of your organization. If you’re joining a virtual program, please be sure each participant is joining on their own computer so we can create breakout groups appropriately. An individual webcam and microphone are required for virtual participation.

How can I register?

Our registration is highly personalized so we ask that each individual completes the registration themselves. This ensures we can get accurate contact information, demographics data for internal reporting efforts and dietary restrictions for in-person programs. Please share the registration link(s) with your team members to complete on their own. All program communication is sent via e-mail so be sure to register with a preferred email address.

Do you serve meals or snacks?

Lunch is included for full day, in-person offerings unless otherwise noted. Programs hosted at the Kansas Leadership Center also offer a variety of snacks for participants that may include mixed nuts (including peanuts), chex mix, peanut butter pretzels, chips and assorted fruits. Please indicate any dietary restrictions or food-related airborne allergens upon registration. Coffee, tea and water are also provided. Have a preferred snack? Please feel welcome to bring your own food or beverages to KLC.

Can I reserve program spots for my team?

To ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to attend, all spots in KLC programs are first come, first serve. If you’re coming with a large group or bringing a class, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. Please note that registration is not transferable to others. We are unable to accommodate swapping individual registrations in programs.

Do you offer scholarships?

The Kansas Leadership Center offers scholarships to individuals that believe leadership is an activity, not a position and anyone can learn to exercise leadership at any time. We never want cost to be a barrier for participants. Eligibility is determined by the following criteria:

  • Work directly contributes to KLC’s mission to foster civic leadership for healthier Kansas communities
  • Knowledge of KLC framework will impact others
  • Ability/avenue to share the KLC ideas
  • Financial need

If you need assistance with the tuition fee, please complete this online application. Please note scholarships are not applicable toward cost of materials.

Are there prerequisites to attend your programs?

Yes. The KLC Path is designed to be taken sequentially. Everyone begins with Step 1, When Everyone Leads before moving on to Step 2, Your Leadership Edge. Participants interested in completing the full KLC Path have two options for Step 3. Lead for Change, designed for teams of 3-5 working on a shared, adaptive challenge or Equip to Lead, a program for individuals seeking opportunities to facilitate the KLC ideas in your own context.

KLC’s Advanced Programs are stand-alone offerings designed for teachers, coaches, facilitators and leadership professionals to sharpen their skills. Familiarity with KLC’s Leadership Framework is required prior to attending any program. Additionally, familiarity with the Case-in-Point methodology will aid participation in the Advanced Leadership Development Intensive. Participation in a one-day When Everyone Leads program is required prior to attending the When Everyone Leads Facilitator Certification. The Leadership Coach Intensive is your path to professional coaching with no prerequisites to attend. It is designed for individuals at all levels of coach training.

Where am I on the KLC Path?

KLC programs and materials are ever evolving! Most recently, the KLC Path was redesigned in 2023 to incorporate a new one-day program, When Everyone Leads, as step 1. Previous iterations of the KLC Path offered Your Leadership Edge as step 1. If you have not yet attended the When Everyone Leads program, start there! Not sure where you are on the path? Contact us at programs@kansasleadershipcenter.org and we’ll be happy to check our records.

How can I prepare for a KLC Program?

  • Be present. Block out the program days on your calendar and be fully present for yourself and your peers. Our in-person and virtual programs are highly interactive offerings designed to challenge you through individual reflection, full group discussion and small group application. While the virtual environment may be tempting to “multitask,” we expect you to mitigate distractions and participate fully.
  • Purchase the required texts. Be sure to purchase the required materials in advance so that you can complete the required pre-reading before each program. The books for path programs are When Everyone Leads and Your Leadership Edge. Please anticipate one-week shipping minimum for books ordered through the KLC Store. If you’re local or traveling to Wichita, you can also purchase the books at KLC. We’re open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Additional materials required for programs will be provided digitally or in-person depending on your program.
  • Do the prep work. Each program requires 30-45 minutes of prep-work so be prepared to carve out time a week or two before the program to complete the necessary assignments.

What do I need to bring with me?

When Everyone Leads is required for all KLC Path programs:

  • When Everyone Leads
  • Your Leadership Edge
  • Lead for Change
  • Equip to Lead

Your Leadership Edge is required only for steps 2 and 3 on the KLC Path:

  • Lead for Change
  • Equip to Lead

Additional Materials: A program specific Toolkit will be provided digitally for virtual programs and printed for in-person offerings. The cost for materials is $5 per program paid upon registration and is non-refundable. Should you need to cancel your participation, we will be happy to provide access to the materials upon request.

Do I need a camera to attend virtual programs?

Yes! An individual webcam and microphone are required for virtual participation. Each individual is expected to join Zoom with their camera on and microphone ready to unmute. Participants will have opportunities to participate in the full zoom room as well as with small groups in breakout rooms throughout virtual offerings.

  • Login to your Zoom account or create an account using the same e-mail address you registered with, click here.
  • We strongly encourage you to use the same e-mail for both your zoom account and registration to streamline the check-in process.
  • Make certain you have the latest version of zoom here.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation and transfer requests are accepted up to one week prior to the start of your program. Please contact programs@kansasleadershipcenter.org to submit your request. Please note:

  • Refunds will be issued back to the original form of payment less the non-refundable materials fee.
  • KLC will not issue a refund should you cancel within one week of the program start date.
  • If you are part of the Leadership Transformation Grant, a late cancellation will deduct a spot from your total.
  • If you feel you have an extenuating circumstance, please e-mail programs@kansasleadershipcenter.org and we can consider your request.
  • Due to the individualized nature of our programs, if your plans change outside of the cancellation window, we ask that you please still let us know so we can update our preparation materials.

Attendance Policy

We strongly recommend you attend each session and participate fully. While we understand unavoidable conflicts may come up. If you need to reschedule, please note the cancellation policy. If you feel you have an extenuating circumstance, please e-mail programs@kansasleadershipcenter.org and we can consider your request.

My original date no longer works for my schedule. Can I switch to another offering?

Yes! We would be happy to transfer your registration to another offering up to one week prior to the start of your program. Please contact programs@kansasleadershipcenter.org to submit your request. Please note:

  • KLC will not accept transfer requests within one week of the program start date.
  • Late transfer requests will defer to the cancellation policy.

I am no longer able to attend. Can I send someone else in my place?

If you cannot attend, please do not try to find a replacement. Our programs and data collection efforts are highly individualized, and registration is not designed for swapping participants. Please let us know if your plans change and we will proceed in accordance with the cancellation policy.

The program I’d like to attend is full, can I get on the waitlist?

We don’t currently offer waitlists for our programs; however, you’re welcome to reach out around 1 week prior to the start of the program to inquire about cancellations. If there is space, we’d be happy to get you in. If other dates are available, we encourage you to register for another offering that works for your schedule. If space opens up, we can transfer your registration to your first preference.
