Gwynne Birzer, J.D.

Gwynne E. Birzer is a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Kansas. Her legal career spans over 33 years and includes roles such as assistant district attorney, assistant public defender, assistant attorney general, founder and leader of her own law firm, and partner at the law firm Hite, Fanning, and Honeyman LLP, where she specialized in complex medical malpractice defense. Through her work, she has encountered individuals in their most vulnerable states.

Judge Birzer’s philosophy is that individuals in leadership roles must look for the diamond in the rough, as a diamond can shine even in places where qualities such as hard work, listening, determination, integrity, and self-awareness are undervalued. She wholeheartedly believes that anyone, regardless of their circumstances, can exercise great leadership if provided with the proper tools and encouragement from those in positions of authority. She also believes that one cannot effectively lead without inspiring others to lead. Judge Birzer looks forward to bringing her professional commitment and life experiences to the Kansas Leadership Center Board of Directors.
