Alonford Robinson Jr., Ph.D. | Associate

Alonford James Robinson Jr., Ph.D., is the founder and CEO of Symphonic Strategies™ Inc., a research, training, and consulting firm that helps people solve collective action challenges and strengthen their capacity to lead change together. His work focuses on building the conditions that allow organizations and communities to align, adapt, and move forward in complex environments.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Robinson has advised leaders across the public, private, and social sectors in the United States and internationally. His clients have included federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as global corporations, foundations, and nonprofit organizations. He brings particular depth in organizational learning, strategy, monitoring and evaluation, and cross-sector collaboration.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Robinson served as a global faculty member with the Corporate Executive Board (now part of Gartner), where he led strategy seminars and advised senior executives across North America and Europe. He later served as a senior strategist and advisor to the Children’s Defense Fund, supporting national infrastructure, communications modernization, and multi-sector partnerships.

In addition to his consulting work, Dr. Robinson has taught and delivered seminars for public sector leaders and previously served on the faculty at George Washington University and the University of Maryland. He holds a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University and dual bachelor’s degrees in social psychology and political science from Stanford University.
