The Kansas Nonprofit Chamber is working with the WSU VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America) to create an action plan to help Wichita residents positively engage those who aren’t practicing state and local procedures. The groups plan to create flyers to distribute online and around the community that offers discussion points on ways to positively interact with individuals in a safe manner.

Instead of sharing the same information about mask usage and social distancing, we focused on the need to open a dialogue with those who are still not on board with those procedures. Offering some kind of script or suggestions on how to deal with those conversations will be incredibly useful for those promoting healthy behaviors.”

- Johnson Controls Manufacturing: Connect with smaller manufacturing companies and carriers around Kansas City to develop best practices for keeping manufacturing employees safe.
- Leadership Emporia Academy: Gather a list of COVID-safe activities for families to do together around Emporia to overcome fatigue and encourage residents to be active.
- Oregon Trail Presbyterian Ministries: Create “Table of Four” safe, small group events for seniors in Blue Rapids, KS to combat isolation.
- Rise Up for Youth: Hold a selfie contest to encourage Wichita youth to take a selfie while wearing a mask around the community.
- Central Kansas Community Foundation: Host a socially distanced outdoor event for youth and families over the holiday break and ask for volunteers to call socially isolated families in Newton, KS.

Kansas Beats the Virus is a partnership between the Kansas Leadership Center and the State of Kansas to activate KLC’s statewide network to generate local solutions that slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the effort is to spark hundreds of small group meetings before the end of 2020.
