Details
A long-standing precedent establishes that people born in the United States, with a few exceptions, are U.S. citizens, even if their parents aren’t. It’s rooted in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, passed after the Civil War. An executive order by President Donald Trump seeks to change that, but the final word is likely to come from the Supreme Court.
