Claudia Amaro | Field Team

Claudia Amaro is a member of the Kansas Leadership Center Field Team, teacher, and coach for Avanzando Juntos (KLC’s Spanish language leadership program) and co-host of En El Balcon, bringing KLC ideas to Spanish speakers in a weekly Facebook Live event. She is passionate about diversity, inclusion, and community-building and has translated KLC’s Your Leadership Edge book to Spanish.

From a very young age Claudia understood that if something she wanted did not exist, she did not have to wait for someone to build it. Instead she built it herself with the help of those around her. Thus, she learned through experience to energize others around a common purpose. Being sure of her own identity has helped her understand and value the contributions of people who are different from her.

Born in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Claudia moved to the United States at the age of 12. She lived in Colorado, California, and finally the state she calls home today, Kansas. Claudia has worked tirelessly in recent years with the Wichita Kansas Latino community, using traditional media and social media to inform and educate the community about inequalities, mental health and resources available, along the way building trust and influence to help people communicate better and face difficult challenges together. Claudia learned about the KLC in 2016 when she participated in Topeka’s Latino Leadership Collaborative and has been an active participant and team member ever since.

For Claudia, her son and her husband are her greatest treasure, and she feels blessed to be surrounded by her mother, her 4 sisters and their families in Wichita, and many friends who respect and love her. Claudia’s goal is to inspire, teach, and motivate many more people to exercise leadership in their homes, communities, and places of employment, to build a better society together.
