Julian Azcary Montes | Creative Services Manager
As creative services manager, Julian Azcary Montes embodies the value of storytelling. His role as the KLC’s onsite photographer and videographer, as well as his involvement in various livestream productions, centers around cultivating moments around KLC’s Framework, the people who deploy it, and its impact within their context. Julian maintains that storytelling and a deep understanding of culture can open doors for others to engage in leadership in different ways, fostering new ideas and experiments. After all, leadership starts with you and must engage others.
Julian is a graduate of Newman University, holding a degree in psychology and a minor in information technology. During his undergraduate years, he championed hosting new conferences at KLC, including the first Hispanic American Leadership Organization Regional Conference event in 2014 and the inaugural Multicultural Student Leadership Conference in 2017.
Beyond his professional role, Julian is most active at the intersection of culture work and civic participation. He volunteers time with the Kansas Hispanic Education and Development Foundation and has served as the Communications Team Lead for the Young Latino Professionals of Wichita. Currently, Julian occupies the role of technical advisor to the Kansas Hispanic and Latino American Affairs Commission for the state of Kansas. In support of promoting and developing other artists and creative ecosystems, Julian operates as a Field Representative for southwest and south-central Kansas with the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission.
When it comes time to relax, Julian spends his time with his wife Krissy and pup, Daphne, taking walks through the College Hill neighborhood simply savoring the small joys with his family. In addition to his visual creativity, Julian has a musical side and finds solace in strumming away his worries on his guitar.
