Gina Maree Bonfiglio-Speer | Teacher

Gina (Maree) Bonfiglio-Speer is a leadership developer and coach who brings a unique combination of warmth, inspiration, humor, and provocation to every relationship.

Gina understands that learning, leadership, and change demand probing questions, tough conversations, exploration of systemic dynamics, and a willingness to be uncomfortable. Whether teaching, coaching, consulting, or designing ground-breaking leadership development programs, Gina starts with a compassionate approach to individual learning and growth. She encourages groups to stay in diagnosis longer, coaching patience to understand the dynamics of each situation. She challenges individuals to draw on their own wisdom and the wisdom around them, and to move collectively toward lasting solutions.

A member of KLC’s core teaching team since 2010, Gina is program chair for Lead for Change, co-chair of the Teach Leadership Intensive, and teaches in Your Leadership Edge in Kansas City.

As president of Innovative Leadership Strategies, a leadership and organizational development firm focused on system change, Gina builds individual capacity to lead with courage, candor and compassion. She is director of the nationally recognized Healthy Communities Leadership Academy, sponsored the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.

Gina trained and was guest faculty in the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Art and Practice of Leadership Development. She is a KLC-certified civic and community leadership coach, certified in the emotional and social intelligence competency inventory, and licensed as an Immunity to Change facilitator.

Over the last 27 years Gina has seen, experienced, and grappled with the practice of leadership in government, non-profit, for-profit, small business, and community arenas. Her 17 years’ experience in senior executive roles encompassed health, social service, mental health, and organizational development. Her professional interests range from promoting individual growth as a coach and former psychotherapist, to facilitating large scale organization, policy and system change.

Gina loves adventure. She has skydived in Missouri, sailed the South Pacific, and zip-lined across gorges in North Carolina. She enjoys playing the ukulele, riding her electric bike, and walking in the park.
