If you are a public official you know that your role as an authority figure in the public arena can be difficult and rewarding at the same time. Some days you might wonder why you ever put your name on the ballot or said ‘yes’ to this work. Your personal bandwidth is always being stretched. The Kansas Leadership Center is convening public servants for a day long workshop to share stories from the field, gain powerful leadership tools for use in the public arena and get time to experiment.

Join KLC’s ‘Authority Lab’ workshop to gain tangible tools to build your capacity for making progress in the public arena. We will explore what it takes to make decisions that go against popular opinion as well as discover ways to get back up after being knocked down and actually be better because of it. We will cover elements of the KLC framework that are especially relevant to elected and appointed officials like how to understand process challenges, start where they are, choose among competing values, give the work back and work across factions.

What to Expect

• Teaching from a team of world-class leadership developers with experience in public office
• Time in the ‘lab’ to practice these leadership tools as an elected or appointed authority figure
• Support from colleagues facing similar adaptive challenges
• Lunch will be provided
