Often times, leadership gets treated very intellectually – like I can study it or figure it out in my head to find the right answer. I studied a lot about leadership while I was in school. I learned about theories and best practices. I did book reports and compared and contrasted the great, and not so great, leaders of history. But I’ve learned that my book knowledge can only get me so far. It’s only a part of the puzzle. Ask anyone who’s tried to move a group of people through change and they will tell you it’s about action. Doing. Trying. Failing…and trying again. And, as I’ve found, it’s about doing this in all aspects of my life, whether that be at work, in a board room, a neighborhood gathering or at home.
That’s why I’m excited about this book. It is an opportunity to bridge the head knowledge with the heart action. In Your Leadership Edge: Lead Anytime, Anywhere., co-author Ed O’Malley and I offer tips, ideas and resources to take the often complex act of leadership and break it down into bite size, simple steps, so you can truly lead at anytime from anywhere.
